Women, Black, Latino and Asian artists help drive a mural explosion in West Dallas
Artists are making their mark in West Dallas away from the white walls of museums. They’re doing it through street art that showcases dozens of murals, many by women, people of color and others embracing the rebellious freedom of public murals and graffiti. Muralist Hatziel Flores is one of them. Street art “welcomes everyone. It never discriminates,” said Flores, a Mexico City-born artist. His latest work, a fusion of fine art and graffiti, features an indigenous woman in hues of purples and pinks with his Hatziel tag in cartoony lettering. It’s part of the curated cluster of work in West Dallas that has been expanding for years. “Street art is…

Navy veteran finds peace in photography
Our country’s heroes are all around us and with November as National Veterans and Military Families Month, we’re introducing a veteran who used to forecast the weather for the U.S. Navy, and is now finding peace through photography. Photographing birds is a fairly new hobby for Navy veteran Michael French, a man with a very analytical mind which works for an eye for photography, but was also perfect for his former job. “We don’t use percents. It’s not a ‘10{5b4d37f3b561c14bd186647c61229400cd4722d6fb37730c64ddff077a6b66c6} chance of rain today’. It’s not a ‘I think this’ or ‘I think that’. Artist Paul McCarthy Has Spent His Entire Career Shocking Audiences. His Latest Provocation: Dressing Up as Hitler
Two naked bodies hang, tied up by cables in the atrium of the KODE museum in Bergen, Norway. If you know the artist Paul McCarthy, you will recognize the male figure—it’s him, or at least, an image of him. If you don’t, a McCarthy show might be a shocking experience; those uninitiated into McCarthy’s practice might be struck by the grotesque nature of his works. For decades now, the LA-based artist has been mining popular culture, plucking out characters from Hollywood and the political sphere and drawing them out into works on paper, or sculptures and films. “Dead End Hole,” the artist’s first institutional exhibition in Norway, spans two large parts of…

Home Alone The McCallister’s house in “Home Alone” is a real house located in Winnetka, Illinois. Fortunately, the area isn’t known for being targeted by bandits. The house has five bedrooms and four bathrooms. Also, none…
