With the advent of social media, youthful Black and LGBTQ+ artists have bigger entry to much more musicians of all backgrounds, but artistic fields keep on being dominated by white, cis-men, they said. “The notion commenced as me and my buddies getting like hey, it’d be super fun to just have a working day the place we get to hold out and participate in audio all working day,” Cavanagh said. “Then we talked over the notion far more and much more and it kind of just snowballed into supplying a platform to Black and queer artists all through the north east.”

The 26-12 months-outdated musician’s journey started in grade college, when they joined the marching band and picked up the clarinet. All around that time, Cavanagh’s stepfather, a luthier—a craftsperson who builds and fixes stringed instruments—entered their daily life, so instruments rested everywhere you go, prepared to be plucked, strummed and mastered.

“I was constantly all-around musical instruments,” claimed Cavanagh, who works by using they/them/she/her pronouns. “I was in orchestra and any other tunes endeavors all through significant school that I could be in.”

Their taste in new music ranged from hardcore, to pop rock to pop audio, and they jumped from band to band, style to genre, drawing inspiration from artists these types of as Julian Baker, A Wonderful Big Pile of Leaves and Tyler the Creator. Today, they concentrate largely on seem engineering and tunes manufacturing in various studios in Downtown Syracuse.

Forevermore Fest will element area expertise, as effectively as bands and solo artists from the northeast location. Apart from audio, the function will have artwork distributors providing their wares, meals vehicles and a drag functionality.

With Forevermore Fest, Cavanagh hopes to not only emphasize Black and LGBTQ+ artists, but also encourage aspiring creatives who are looking for a person like them undertaking what they love, just as Cavanagh once sought after.
