‘Parts of town are just destroyed’: the ghost shops of Kent in pictures | Photography
In 2018, the photographer Martin Amis commenced working on a task about the outcomes of Brexit on his native Kent – “a kind of wander around this desolate landscape where practically nothing worked and everything was broken”, is how he originally conceived it. Straight absent, Amis (no relation to the novelist of the identical name) began to discover a preponderance of “really unhappy-searching closed shops” at the edges of his neighborhood towns. “I considered: oh yeah, we’ll have a couple of of all those in,” he recollects. “Then I started taking pictures a lot more and more.” There ended up so several shut-down newsagents and florists, pubs and Chinese dining…
