Welch, who turns 60 on Wednesday, is the son of Salvation Military officers. He was born in Ludington in 1962, moved to Indiana and returned to Ludington in 1976.

“I grew up with tunes around me,” he mentioned. “My total family played music,” he explained. “Growing up, staying included in the Salvation Army had a ton to do with that.”
