State Theater showcasing several holiday movies | Local News

This holiday season the State Theater has movies featuring Griswolds, golden bells, a grouchy Grinch, guardian angels and the golden age of Hollywood.

“We think there is a Christmas movie for everyone in our lineup,” said Beth Pyles, State Theater operations manager.

The lineup includes “Christmas Vacation,” “The Polar Express,” “It’s A Wonderful Life,” “The Grinch” and “White Christmas.”

Pyles said there are many favorites showing this year. “Christmas Vacation” she said is a film fans enjoy.

“We all have a little dysfunction in our families so I think we can relate,” she said.

Movies like “The Grinch” and “The Polar Express” are for not only the young but also young at heart, she said.

“We have lots of littles who come here at Christmas for their first movie in a theater,” she said.

Movies like “White Christmas” and “It’s a Wonderful Life” are classics, she said.

“They take us back in time to a different place and watching it in the State Theater, which opened before these movies were made, is so neat,” she said.

Christmas movies, she said, always make you feel good.

“They offer us a look at how the world could be and should be” she said. “We hope to offer the community a fun and inexpensive entertainment option, especially at the holidays, where they can come and enjoy an evening with friends and family”

Many families have told her movies at the State Theater have become a holiday tradition.

Last year, the State Theater had to close down for COVID-19 precautions and couldn’t show the holiday movies.

“It has been a crazy couple of years and I feel like things are starting to return to normal,” Pyles said. “We love Christmas movies with all the joys, anxieties and surprises they bring.”

She said these movies offer an escape.

“And maybe a glimpse into the past and bring back our own Christmas memories,” she said. “They help get us in the Christmas spirit.”

The holiday movie series begins 7 p.m. Dec. 3 with “Christmas Vacation.” It continues with showings of “The Polar Express” at 1 and 7 p.m. Dec. 4. “It’s a Wonderful Life” will show at 8:30 p.m. Dec. 11 followed by “The Grinch” at 7 p.m. Dec. 17. The series concludes with the holiday classic musical “White Christmas” at 7 p.m. Dec. 18.

Tickets are $3 for all films except “The Polar Express” which is $1.
