(New York, NY) — Harvey Weinstein is asking a New York state appeals court to toss his sexual-assault conviction. The former Hollywood producer is serving a 23-year prison sentence on charges of sexual assault and third-degree rape. He is looking for a new trial, with his lawyers claiming his conviction was based on the ride of the #MeToo movement against sexual violence and not specific crimes. Three of the five justices expressed serious concerns that Justice James Burke made a mistake allowing prejudicial evidence at his trial, saying it could bring into question Weinstein’s character. Weinstein is currently awaiting trial on eleven other charges, with the trials not expected to happen before next summer.
