Sacramento CA artist Wayne Thiebaud dies at age 101
Wayne Thiebaud, an influential Sacramento art teacher and internationally recognized artist who was best known for his richly textured, brightly colored paintings of ordinary objects and enticing California landscapes, has died. The painter died Saturday at his Land Park home at the age of 101, Acquavella Galleries, which showcased his work, told the New York Times. Thiebaud, who apprenticed in high school as an animator for Walt Disney, had a long and distinguished career as one of the most popular American artists since World War II.
