Opera SB Receives National Endowment for the Arts Grant
By Opera Santa Barbara Opera Santa Barbara is pleased to announce it has been accredited by the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) to obtain a Grants for Arts Projects award of $10,000. This grant will help our upcoming opera, Jack Perla and Jessica Murphy Moo’s, An American Desire, at the Lobero Theatre on Sunday, February 18. Music professor re-creates inaugural role in new American opera ‘Blue’
October 15, 2021 Gordon Hawkins, internationally acclaimed baritone and professor of voice in the ASU University of Music, Dance and Theatre, executed the purpose of “The Reverend” in Tazewell Thompson’s powerful new opera, “Blue,” with the Michigan Opera Theatre, Sept. 11–12 at Detroit’s outside Aretha Franklin Amphitheatre. “The performances at Michigan Opera Theatre stand for a dedication to bringing musical remarkable theater back again to the public, whilst concurrently addressing the pervasive issue of too much policing in urban communities all over the United States,” Hawkins reported.
