Emmy Rossum is a self-proclaimed skin-care obsessive who has armed herself with an array of beauty tools to treat her skin’s needs (when she’s not visiting celebrity facialist Shani Darden’s studio, that is). Accordingly, the actor is diligent about her routines, musing that the only time in her life that she didn’t complete her nighttime skin care was when she went into labor. Her regimen includes a cocktail of hydrators, always sunscreen, and a firming neck cream. “Having clear skin and having hydrated skin just really makes me feel confident—way more than even makeup,” she says.
For her new TV series, Angelyne, Rossum fully transformed into the titular Los Angeles legend, wearing prosthetics and a blonde wig. But in real life, of course, Rossum’s curly brunette hair is her beauty calling card—making her hair routine all the more must-know. It all begins in the shower with Living Proof’s styler, followed by The Curly Co.’s collapsible diffuser. “What I love about curly hair is I think it projects confidence,” says the 35-year-old, though she admits to years of trying to change it. “Finally, kind of embracing my natural hair is something that now makes me feel so unique.”
After a lightweight coat of foundation, Rossum mixes a duo of Kosas and Kevyn Aucoin concealers for her under-eye, but avoids covering the subtle blue veins in the area. When she was working on a movie with her husband, director Sam Esmail, he would ask the makeup artists to leave that part of her under-eye uncovered. “Because he said it looked real and authentic,” Rossum says. “And in fact him loving that about me made me love that about me.”
Two Jillian Dempsey lid tints (one pink, one brown) are followed by two coats of By Terry’s twist brush formula. “I really like more matte products. I find that anything with kind of iridescence, those little particles tend to make me break out,” she says before dusting a Benefit Cosmetics bronzer and Chanel blush onto her cheeks. A pencil and brow gel perfects her brows, while a trio of pigments provides a rosy hue to her lips. And with a spritz of Profumi di Firenze’s Vaniglia del Madagascar, she’s ready to start her day.
