Dr. John, Weezer, Kelsea Ballerini, Grateful Dead top this week’s new music releases

CLEVELAND, Ohio — A posthumous release from Dr. John, something new from Will and Jada Smith’s daughter Willow and the return of 5 Seconds of Summer top this week’s batch of new releases (all subject to change)…

Album of the Week: After six decades of musical rabble-rousing, you didn’t think Dr. John would go quietly, did you? The New Orleans legend and 2011 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee (aka Mac Rebennack Jr.) had one more album in the can at the time of his passing in June of 2019 at the age of 77, and “Things Happen That Way” (Rounder) comes out this week, a 10-track set featuring collaborations with Willie Nelson, Aaron Neville and Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real. Any opportunity to hear this will be the right place AND the right time.

Album Title of the Week: Joshua Bassett, “Sad Songs in a Hotel Room” (Warner)

Did Ya Know?: As its title suggests, the Smithereens’ “Lost Album” (Tollie/Sunset Blvd.) compiles 1983 recordings the quartet, including late frontman Pat Di Nizio, made while between label deals, some of which never made it onto subsequent albums.
