The head of one of the world’s most prestigious art exhibitions has resigned just after this year’s demonstrate became embroiled in a scandal in excess of antisemitic imagery.
The 15th version of Documenta is its greatest demonstrate to day, curated by the Indonesian collective Ruangrupa. Subsequent the elimination of the artwork, Taring Padi apologized to the Jewish group, the German public and Documenta attendees.
“The imagery that we use is never intended as hatred directed at a certain ethnic or religious group, but as a critique of militarism and state violence,” the team reported. “We depicted the involvement of the govt of the condition of Israel in the completely wrong way—and we apologize.”

Remko Leemhuis, the director of the American Jewish Committee Berlin Lawrence, mentioned in an electronic mail that the inclusion of “People’s Justice” illustrated that there is a “enormous difficulty” with antisemitism in German art and culture as nicely as on the global stage.
