— Amazon is set to stream the Kanye West and Drake concert this evening. Taking place in Los Angeles, the “Free Larry Hoover” concert will stream globally on Prime Video and the Amazon Music App, as well as the Amazon Music Twitch channel at 8 pm Pacific time. The show is set to benefit Larry Hoover, a former gang leader who was convicted of murder, conspiracy, extortion and money laundering in 1997. He’s serving six life sentences in federal prison. His son was featured on West’s latest album, talking about issues with the country’s criminal justice system.
— A ten-billion-dollar lawsuit is being filed over Travis Scott’s deadly Texas music festival. Houston attorney Brent Coon says it’s shameful the rapper and other organizers did nothing to end Astroworld early last month. He believes security and promoters knew people were being killed and hurt when fans rushed the stage. Scott’s attorneys have said there’s no way he could have ended the concert early. Ten people died.
— The Jussie Smollett case is in the hands of the jury as they resume their deliberations today. The former “Empire” actor, who is Black, is charged with staging a racist and homophobic attack in Chicago in 2019. Prosecutors say he staged the attack for publicity. He faces up to three years in prison if convicted. The jury returns today just after nine a.m. eastern.
— “Jeopardy!” fans will be seeing more of Mayim Bialik and Ken Jennings on their TV screens. That’s because Sony announced the pair will host the show through the end of its 38th season. The season will be on the air into next year. They took over after former executive producer Mike Richards left after briefly hosting the long-running quiz show. He departed after previous insensitive comments came to light.
— Wendy Williams will not return to her titular talk show until sometime next year. On Wednesday, The Wendy Williams show announced a list of guest hosts that are planned to host through January. The guest hosts include Fat Joe, Remy Ma, Michael Rapaport, and Sherri Shephard. Executive Producer David Perler said each of the guest hosts bring a unique and distinctive style to the successful ‘Wendy’ format. Williams has been missing from the show since season 13 debuted back in October. The season was supposed to debut in September but got pushed back after Williams tested positive for COVID.
— Britney Spears is gaining more freedom. She’s being allowed to finally execute documents herself. While her conservatorship was terminated a month ago, legal proceedings surrounding it still continue. A motion was granted Wednesday to give the pop star the ability to sign her own estate paperwork and manage her money for the first time in almost 14 years. Judge Brenda Penny ruled last month that although the conservatorship would be terminated, Spears’ temporary conservator would complete some tasks before it ended entirely. A hearing set for January 19th is expected to discuss accounting matters.
— Reading Rainbow is returning 15 years after PBS took it off the air. The educational show will soon return as a series called “Reading Rainbow Live.” The show is the third-longest in PBS history after a 23-year run and was shut down in 2006 amid financial struggles. While the show is returning, beloved host LeVar Burton is not. A comedy troupe called The Rainbows will take over hosting duties.
— Two-time Oscar-nominated actor and Marvel movie franchise star Jeremy Renner is planning to build a fire station in the Tahoe region. In a recent interview on “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” Renner revealed he’s building a station near his house, which is near Mt. Rose-Ski Tahoe. He says he’s been working and training with the fire agencies in the region and shares it’s great to give back to the community. In fall 2020, Renner visited the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District. The district’s Adam Mayberry says Renner bought a surplus firetruck from a different agency, but TMFPD helped the actor secure surplus fire hoses and some equipment for his truck.
— Ariana Grande’s team is finished on The Voice. On Tuesday, her last group, Jim and Sasha Allen were voted out of the singing competition. Grande took to Instagram to say she is bursting with pride for her entire team this season. She thanked her team for their hard work and thanked her fans who voted.
